College dorm bedrooms are notorious for being cramped and overcrowded. With more and more students attending college each year, many universities struggle to provide enough housing options for everyone. This has led to dorm rooms being designed to house multiple students in a small space, often leaving little room for personal belongings. The EZ Bed Kit ecosystem of products provides a much needed solution for the modern dorm room.

The Brand
The rough font used for the letters 'EZ' in the logo makes it relatable to the target market of college students by integrating a fun college feel. The light blue color chosen for the branding signifies innovation and change, and also blends well with the various dorm room decors. Additionally, the tagline 'For students by students' was added to emphasize the fact that the product was developed by college students for their peers. The shortened version of the word 'easy' to 'ez' in the logo not only makes it catchy but also draws a parallel with the product's function, as the EZ Bed Kit slips together just as easily. This branding is highly focused on communicating the product's ease of use, its relevance to the target audience, and its origin as a student-developed product.
Behind the Design
The design is centered around the customer experience, ensuring that the product is extremely intuitive and easy to use, clean, and visually appealing, ultimately creating a positive experience for the customer. The simple yet robust design showcases how the device attaches to the bed, allowing for assembly and use within seconds. The product's user-friendly features, such as the curved inner edges on the EZ Holder and EZ Tray, make it easy to clean clutter from everyday use. The fillets on all edges give the product a safe, friendly, and clean look and feel, while textures and cutouts on the EZ Tray prevent the build-up of debris and liquids on the surface. The design of the EZ Bed Kit is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, providing customers with a reliable and visually appealing solution to improve their dorm experience.
Preparing for Manufacturing
As part of the manufacturing preparation for the EZ Bed Kit, a key focus was on designing the product with additive manufacturing in mind. The goal was to create a product that could be manufactured at scale using only FFF printing, without the need for support materials. The design also included integrated features that cut down on material usage and manufacturing time, making it more efficient to produce. This approach has resulted in the EZ Bed Kit being one of the few products that are entirely FFF printed, made to order, and can be delivered to the customer without any extra tooling. By utilizing additive manufacturing technology, we have been able to streamline the manufacturing process for this product, making it more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
